Jack and Jay

Since my last post, Jay has continued to feel better and better. We were even able to get back into full routine this week. He has completely gotten over the croup and only has a little "regular" cough left over from some of the extra congestion that is just lingering. We were feeling well enough to venture to Savannah today and go and visit Marisa, Alex, and Jack this evening (Mila is out of town). The boys seemed to enjoy the visit!

The Cold - - The Croup :(

I completely take back EVERYTHING I said yesterday about the leisurely pace. I'd rather run through our marathon days than have another day start like today. Let's begin with everyone is ok. Here's the rest of the story. . .

Jay woke up at 4:30 this morning (earlier than usual) fussing and crying because he was hungry. I was thinking in my head about whether I would go back to bed after I finished feeding him or if I would get in the shower and start getting ready for work. Little did I know, but I was getting way ahead of myself. I got his bottle ready and went in the room to feed him because I knew he would be hungry. He didn't eat much yesterday and he didn't really eat anything after about 2 pm. He screamed and fussed while I tried to feed him - - he woke the whole house up and no food was getting in. Since it had been so long since he'd eaten (he couldn't breathe and eat at the same time - - the result everytime was a scream), I called the doctor's office and spoke with the nurse on-call. We met enough of the criteria for her to refer us immediately to the emergency room instead of waiting for the doctor's office to open. So, Jay took his first (and last, I hope) trip to the emergency room very, very early this morning. I braced myself to see an IV put into him because I was afraid he was very close to dehydrating if not already there. Thankfully, we met a very nice pediatrician in the ER who was able to correct our problem without an IV. Jay received a diagnosis of the Croup and a dropper full of steroids. Within just a few short hours, he was breathing easy and drinking again! We got home from the hospital sometime in the mid-morning (I lost track of time) and he gulped down 10 ounces of Pedialite, 2 big bottles of milk, and rice and bananas by 3:00. He wasted no time making up for lost meals! Needless to say, I am so, so thankful everything has turned out ok. My little boy is on the fast track to a full recovery! Here are a few pictures from the afternoon. . .

There's nothing like watching your hands to pass a little time.

Look carefully - - there are teeth in there!

We even saw a few smiles this afternoon.

Thank you Papa for coming to stay with us.
Maybe tomorrow I'll actually make it back to work.

Sitting Up. . . Almost

I hate that Jay is sick right now, but I have to admit I'm enjoying the slower pace to my days this week. I'll be heading back to work tomorrow, but Jay will still be at home with his Papa who is thankfully coming to stay with him while he continues to recuperate over the next couple of days. The fever has broken, but he is still coughing and very congested. He's also still not eating to fulfill his regular appetite, but I know it won't take long for that to return.

In this nice leisurely pace, we have had time to linger a little more on the fun stuff. When I bathed Jay just a little while ago, he did not want to lie back in the tub like he usually does. He wanted to sit up. And when I was drying him off and rubbing a little lotion on him, he did not want to lie down then either. So, I grabbed the camera (safely with baby in hand, of course) and was able to capture this nice little shot.
No hands!

Five Months! (plus one busy week)

I'm a little late on this five month post because we've been so, so busy at our house lately. Jay is keeping us on our toes with lots and lots of feeding time since he's eating so many solids now. He has a little breakfast, lunch and supper everyday now in addition to his regular bottles. He enjoys rice cereal with bananas in it the most, but he also likes green peas, butternut squash, carrots and occaisionally green beans.

I'm at home today with Jay, though, because he is running fever, coughing, and congested. This is the first time I've missed work since I went back. He made it to five months without any need for a sick day before now, so I'm hoping we have a nice, strong immune system building itself up. When we went to the doctor yesterday to have this little virus checked on, he weighed in at 20 pounds and 6 ounces. Our favorite nurse has started calling him her little football player!

There are two little teeth starting to pop out on that bottom gum. Look closely!

Here's our new high chair. Jay is tired of the camera and ready for the food!
Here is the pitiful little puppy today. He only played for two or three minutes and then he was pooped again.

Friday Night

When I was younger, I looked forward to Friday night all week long. It was not a school night and I could stay up extra late. In high school and college, it was always a great night to go out and meet up with friends - - it drove me crazy to sit at home. I still look forward to Friday nights, but ohhhh, how they've changed. It's still not a school night, but I'm at home and not going anywhere and I think it's wonderful. We don't have to get up and run out the door in the morning, I didn't have to pack a bag tonight to get us through the day tomorrow, and I plan on going to bed soon - - maybe even before 10:00. Ten years ago, I would have gone stir-crazy sitting at home like this on a Friday night. Tonight, I wouldn't change a thing.

Mmmmm, I think I like butternut squash, too.

There's room for a little more right here, Daddy

Almost. . . (can you see that drool bubble?)

No comments on the jacket, please. Remember it was a workday :)

Mmmmm, Carrots

Sorry, Jay, I just couldn't help it. . . you are just so cute with some of those yummy carrots all over your face!

Happy New Year!

We can't wait to meet you, Baby Caty. Jay is ready to let you show him how to throw a cast net!
