The Fair :)

If you haven't been to the fair in Statesboro, then you don't understand how important it is. It is a big deal around here! We were fair tourists last night and took lots of pictures. :)

Pancakes at the Kiwanis Pancake House - - it was a family affair!

He is not going to miss an opportunity to eat anything these days. . .

Granddaddy was helping to grind the corn meal with the very loud (and entertaining) tractor behind them.

This picture is very important - - it's the first one with all of us standing on our own two feet. Notice the big boy jeans, too. . . his very first pair!

The goats were the most friendly at the petting zoo. Yuck. . .

Jay enjoyed visiting with his friend, Carter.

Be sure to look closely at the cheeks in this picture. Jay's and Sam's look exactly the same!

100th Post. . .

This is my 100th posting. . . I've been thinking about this one for the last couple of days and have just been having trouble making up my mind about how I want to go about this post. We are home now from a week-long excursion to see Nutty in Greenwood. It was the last time Jay would see his great-grandfather and we knew that leaving. It made the trip very special for me to know that we would all have this final interaction with such a special person. I know Jay won't remember the trip, but I will be able to tell him one day about the joy his life brings to others. It definitely brought pleasure to the old man to see his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

It's funny how things work out so evenly sometimes. Nutty liked for things to be very fair. He told us all many, many times how much he loved us all - the same, of course :). He passed away on his birthday - - a full, perfectly even circle of life. So, maybe it's fitting that this 100th post is one where I'm thinking about him. . .

So it's been a month. . .

I've been a bad blogger lately. I've been sick. Jay's been sick. Sam works - a lot! We've just had a lot going on. But enough excuses for now. Here's what's going on around our house these days. . .

Jay is, um, let's say exploring his boundaries. He refused to eat breakfast for me the last two mornings. He would only eat if Sam fed him. Therefore, I feel very comfortable in saying that we have experienced a full-on temper tantrum. He would cry (SCREAM) when I brought the spoon to his mouth, so I thought maybe he didn't like what I was offering. Definitely not the case - - he ate every bite when Sam tried. So, it definitely wasn't the food. Hmmmm. . .

This afternoon I tried to put his shoes on and again - - more screaming!! I won, though, if you can even say there was a winner. He left the house wearing shoes. It's going to be hard for me to make this transition into discipline. I know I'm a teacher. I can handle it at school, but there's definitely something different about your own. I know I don't want him to grow up and be a bad kid, though, so there will be boundaries in our house. It's just hard for me not to see sweet baby when I look at him. He's a strong-willed little fellow, so I believe we may be butting heads more and more often. . . really, already?

Notice the cup (not bottle!) in this picture. We said goodbye to the bottle this weekend. It may explain a little of the crabiness. I am so excited to have the counter space back from the bottle drying rack, though! Way too excited. . .

The little crab crawl. He always crawls like this - - one knee and one foot down. See for yourself in the video clip at the end of this post.

Trying to stand up. . . he hasn't made it from the floor to standing by himself yet, but he keeps trying. Soon, very soon.

So grown up!

And, finally, I've been meaning to post this for a few weeks. Here is a short little clip of the knee/foot crawler in action. . .
