The Check-Up Update

While everyone was betting that Jay weighed somewhere in the range of 30 pounds, he only weighed in at 26 pounds, 14 ounces for his twelve month check-up last week. Slim and trim, that's my boy! He's thirty inches tall these days and has a head circumference of 18.5 inches if that means anything to you. He's progressing very well and into EVERYTHING these days. He can open cabinets, drawers above the cabinets, and pretty much get into anything he's not supposed to in just an instant. You can't leave him alone for a second! The highlight of our trip to the doctor, though, happened in the waiting room. A lady walked in holding her baby and Jay pronounced quite loudly to everyone in the room "BAY-BAY" while looking at the baby. I guess you can add that to the short list of words Jay is saying these days. Ma-ma, Da-da, and now bay-bay. He can also say "bot" for bottle when he's really motivated to have some milk. The days of drinking from a bottle, though, are numbered around our house, but I just haven't worked up the nerve yet to start the transition. I am not ready to lose my bay-bay!

Jay and I went to visit Nana and Papa in PTC this weekend. We had a great time riding the golf cart, swinging and playing at the lake, and eating lots of Nana's yummy food. Jay's favorite - - probably a toss-up between the homemade pizza and the banana pudding. Mommy's favorite - - definitely the shrimp! :)

Too tired!

The big party this weekend must have really worn the little man out. Sam went in to check on him this morning and found him asleep, but sitting up in the corner. Poor little guy. . . he only opened his eyes when the flash went off, and then went right back to sleep.

One Year!!!

Jay has been changing and developing new skills by the day these last few weeks. Tonight, when I put him to bed, Jay realized for the first time he didn't have to stay lying down just because I put him that way. He fussed (AKA screamed) for a few minutes sitting up in his crib, but eventually settled in and fell asleep. His new skills stress him out a little sometimes!
Since the 11 month post, Jay has mastered crawling, learned to sit up on his bottom from the crawling position, and cruise across all of the furniture in the living room. He can walk behind a push toy now, but he goes so fast - - it makes me so nervous! He is completely off formula and drinking whole milk. He won't eat any more baby food (he boycotted), so it's all the real thing for him these days. We've been eating a lot of green beans at our house lately since they are so easy for his little hands to pick up. Meat, veggies, fruit - - he loves it all. But, let him see the YoBaby yogurt in the grocery bag or refrigerator and he will have a fit to have some! We are starting to hear the beginnings of some words including my favorite (Mama!), but da-da too! He looks right to the door when I say "Where's Daddy?" in the evenings when Sam comes home. He is an observer - - he is studying everything around him and taking notes.

For me today, it's been a very nostalgic day as I keep thinking back on where we were a year ago and how different life is now. Our lives have forever been changed and blessed because of you, little Jay. No promises, but I'll try not to cry tomorrow when we sing the Hapy Birthday song to you in front of your friends! They are all happy tears, though. I promise.
So, even though we are having the "official" birthday party for Jay tomorrow, we couldn't help but celebrate with a little cake on his real birthday today. There will definitely be more pictures by the end of the weekend!

MAMA

Picture the scene: Sam is changing Jay's diaper on the changing table in his room. I walk in, Jay looks right at me and says, "MA-MA." No extra syllables, no other noises, just mama. That is what melts a mama's heart.
