Go Dawgs!

Today is opening day for Georgia football season. We obviously couldn't travel to Athens for the UGA - GA Southern game, but we were able to enjoy it from home. Mom, Dad, and Jay all dressed in our UGA colors to cheer on the Dawgs. Jay enjoyed watching the game while napping with all of his grandparents and his "Uncle" Lance. Thanks to a hand-me-down from Jack (a gift from Aunt Bethie, of course), Jay had a "G" onesie in just the right size for the day.

The picture just below is from his bath the other night. It was his first in the "big" bathtub. He was so mad, but still so cute!

Jay's First Friend

Jay had his first friend come over to "play" yesterday. Whit is exactly four weeks older than Jay, so it is interesting to see the differences in their sizes. (It was a little more obvious in person.) Whit was about the same size as Jay when he was born. What a difference a month makes!

Don't they look like they had fun? I know that Whit's mom, Katie, and I did. It was very nice to have a visit in the middle of the day!

Open Eyes!

We've been working really hard the last couple of days to capture a good picture of Jay with his eyes open. I've gotten a couple so you can finally see his little eyes if you haven't had a chance to meet Jay.

These last couple of days, he's spent a lot of time sleeping during the day and a lot more time awake at night. I know he has no concept of day and night yet, but his Mommy and Daddy do and he is exhausting us! He can already squirm around in his bassinet - - he will wake up in a completely different position than I leave him in! We are starting to nap in his great big crib to start getting him used to it.

When we hold him, he picks his head up and likes to look around the room. He kind of bobs it around, but he definitely is gaining some control of what he wants to look at. It is amazing to watch him change every day. Even in less than two weeks, I can already see differences. We have a two-week check-up on Friday and I'm very curious to see what he weighs - - he definitely feels like he's put on a little weight when I carry him!

Happy One Week!

Jay is one week old today. He is very happy in his sleep, eat, poop routine and I like the predictabilty of it. I may not know exactly how long each nap will last, but it is fairly easy to anticipate what he will need when he wakes up. Here is a picture I took of him today napping in his bouncy seat. It seems to be one of his favorite ways to sleep.

Sam and I love to sleep, too, but we don't get nearly as much of it as Jay does. Soon enough - - we hope!

Welcome Home Jay!!!

Josiah Charles Broucek has finally arrived! He was born on Thursday, August 14 at 5:40 pm. His arrival was a little more dramatic than I ever imagined it would be due to an emergency c-section, but he is happy and healthy and I am feeling better everyday. Jay weighs 8 pounds and 3 ounces and is 22 inches long. He is tall and SKINNY (a child of Sam's and mine - - I know skinny doesn't seem like the right word, but it is!). At the rate he is eating though, the skinny may not last for long. He sleeps peacefully, poops, pees, and makes little suckling sounds when he gets hungry. So far, he is a very good baby!

Nursery Pictures (Finally!)

Still Couting Down. . .

Its been a few weeks since the last post because I've been so busy getting back to work and ready for the kids to come back to school. I have moved my classroom into a brand new wing at my school and set that up with lots of help from the family. No climbing ladders or desks for me this year! My substitute teacher also started coming in to get familiar with everything at the beginning of pre-planning and has stuck around to help finish getting the room ready and even to meet the kids at Open House and be in the classroom for the first few days of school. She doesn't even know how much help she's been, but her help could not have come at a better time for me!

The kids officially came back to school on Monday and everything seems to be going well so far. Monday, I ran fully on adrenaline I think and made it perfectly fine through the day. I even was able to go get a cherry slush and run a few errands after school in the hundred degree heat! Not bad for me these days! Tuesday, I was definitely feeling tired, and by yesterday I was ready to collapse! The nurse asked me if I was feeling ok and my assistant principal told me it was ok if I needed to go home. I was dragging big-time yesterday. So, I have decided that its time to stay home. There are a few more things I need to do to finish getting ready for the baby like unpacking from the shower two weeks ago (and getting those thank you notes out!), have a clean car, wash clothes and blankets for the baby, and not to metion - REST! So, here I am at home Thursday morning with my already very swollen feet propped up.

We saw the doctor yesterday for the 38 week check-up and Jay is doing quite well. He's in position and ready to go, but probably not nearly as ready as I am. If I had to stop typing right now because my water broke, I would be very happy. We had an ultrasound yesterday, but he was very shy so there are not any great pictures to share. He kept burying his face behind his arms or into the wall next to him. The estimate this week on his weight is 7 pounds, 11 ounces. He's not too overwhelming huge at all, but he does still have nice little chubby cheeks though!

So, as everything stands right now, we are set to induce and bring him into the world next Thursday, August 14. I will see the doctor again next Wednesday before we go to the hospital. My nerves are definitely starting to kick in though. Its very scary and exciting to think I could be holding my own chubby-cheeked baby in just seven days!
